چکیده

found that could not be detected at the exit. For instance, no barium but lead and antimony could be found at the exit. The large sized particles found in the exit wound, however, point to these being derived from the bullet rather than GSR. Smaller spherical particles were found on the entrance, but bigger and more irregular particles were detected at the exit. This suggests that most of the particles detected on the entrance originated from the propellant and irregular particles found at the exit, from the bullet. Since the morphology of the particles differed comparing entrance and exit, this canbeuseful informationwhen differentiating entrance and exit wounds. Interestingly, we were able to detect GSR even though the sample had been treated with liquid formalin for a few days. The survival of GSR has been tested under different conditions such as highly decomposed bodies, high temperatures or on dry bone. This is crucial knowledge for crime scene investigators to establish the cause of death. No thorough studies, except Taborelli et al., who let human bone samples decompose in distilled water for 1 week, have to our knowledge been performed on survival of GSR in different liquids.
